A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman who died in north-west London after reports of a woman who had “fallen from a height”.

Leonidas Georgalla, 50, of Weald Lane, Harrow, appeared at Willesden Magistrates’ Court today for a preliminary hearing.

He is accused of murdering Kathleen John, 39, on Friday, July 29, in London Road, Wembley.

He is due to appear at the Old Bailey at 10am on Wednesday, August 3, when a decision is expected with regard to bail.

Only a crown court judge can decide on bail when the charge is murder.

Georgalla is listed to appear at the same court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on August 30.

He was wearing a grey jumper and tracksuit bottoms and stood with his hands behind his back to confirm his name and age.

Georgalla was represented by Hemini Patel of Lawrence & Co, Kevin Kendridge was acting for the Crown Prosecution Service and Caroline Walsh was chair of the bench.

A Metropolitan Police statement said: “Emergency services were called at 02.22hrs to reports that a woman had fallen from a height.

“Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

“Despite their efforts, Kathleen died at the scene.”

Detective chief inspector John Marriott, the lead investigator, said: “I continue to appeal to any witnesses or anyone with information about the circumstances of Kathleen’s death to call us on 101, quoting reference 656/29Jul.”
