Hawkeye will not be the first post-launch superhero for Marvel’s Avengers but instead his younger protégée, as yet more heroes are rumoured.

Marvel’s Avengers is set to launch this Friday and we already know about two new playable characters that will be added in afterwards, namely Hawkeye and controversial PlayStation exclusive Spider-Man.

Spidey won’t be available until next spring but Hawkeye will be out this year, but before he arrives Kate Bishop will beat him to the punch.

A member of the Young Avengers, Kate Bishop also uses the name Hawkeye and seems to be one of several ‘echo’ characters, which, in a similar manner to Super Smash Bros., play very similarly to another superhero but have a different appearance and some unique moves.

As revealed in Square Enix’s latest War Table event Kate will be added in late October, along with a new story mission called Taking AIM, which will feature Clint Barton (aka the original Hawkeye) and an unnamed new supervillain.

Clint will then be added as a playable character in November, so technically he’ll be an echo of Kate.

That’s all the official news we have on new characters but dataminers have already turned up a host of references to other superheroes, including obvious shoe-ins such as Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange.

Marvel’s Avengers datamined post-launch DLC characters

  • Ant-Man
  • Black Panther
  • Captain Marvel
  • Doctor Strange
  • Falcon
  • Kate Bishop
  • Mar-Vell
  • Mockingbird
  • Quake
  • Scarlet Witch
  • She-Hulk
  • Vision
  • War Machine
  • Wasp
  • Winter Soldier

The datamining already correctly predicted Kate Bishop, so given she was one of the more obscure suggestions there’s every reason to assume this entire list is accurate.

The only real question is when these heroes will be playable, since Clint Barton is making his first appearance in the game as a non-playable character and that’s likely to be the case for a number of these others – especially as Ant-Man alter ego Hank Pym has already been in some of the trailers.

Marvel’s Avengers will release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Stadia on 4 September, with versions for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 (including free upgrades from the current gen versions) to follow.
