Matt Gaetz claims DEMOCRATS are behind the Biden documents scandal so they can ‘take him out’ before he announces his 2024 run and replace him with a younger candidate

Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz suggested on Wednesday that the classified files found in President Joe Biden‘s possession may have been planted there by his fellow Democrats in a bid to take him ‘out’ before the 2024 election.

Amid a high-profile Justice Department investigation into Donald Trump‘s handling of top secret documents, it was discovered in November that Biden himself had a small number of classified records left over from his vice presidency.

They were found in a closet in the Penn Biden Center think tank, where the now-president previously had a private office. Their existence was only revealed this month.

Since then, more such documents have been found in Biden’s family home in Wilmington, Delaware.

Firebrand conservative Gaetz apparently suggested to Fox News that it was the result of a conspiracy to stop the 79-year-old commander-in-chief from running for a second term.

‘There’s an element to this that feels like the Democrats are taking out Joe Biden,’ Gaetz said.

He quickly added, ‘I don’t know that that’s the case, but I don’t know that it’s not.’

‘But just as Joe Biden is hardening the cement around his decision to run for president again, they start looking for what classified documents might have been tucked away eight years ago,’ Gaetz finished.

The White House admitted that a small batch of Obama administration-era documents were found at the Washington, DC think tank only after CBS News first broke the story.

They allegedly were found among Biden’s personal possessions, such as documents describing his son Beau’s funeral arrangements, and contained information related to Iran and the United Kingdom, according to reports.

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to oversee the matter late last week.

Though Biden has not formally declared his intent to run in 2024, officials and aides have said the president is readying to announce his re-election bid – despite concerns from fellow Democrats about his advanced age.

A presidential historian told DailyMail.com earlier this week that it’s too soon to tell whether the classified files investigation will have any bearing on Biden’s likely campaign.

‘It’s really too early to tell, because we don’t know what was in the documents,’ Rutgers professor and presidential historian David Greenberg told DailyMail.com of Biden’s situation.

‘But it appears that Biden is confident that they were packed up inadvertently and that he has nothing to hide. If that’s the case, I imagine he will not see this issue as a liability in 2024 and that he is probably going to run for reelection.’

Greenberg went a step further, speculating that whether Biden mounts a serious campaign at all could be dependent on whether his political foe Trump wins the Republican nomination.

‘I believe Biden sees himself as a firewall against the return of Trump. So long as Trump is running, Biden feels a need to run in order to block him,’ the historian said.

‘If a different Republican were to get the nomination, the threat to America would be much less and everyone could relax a bit—and in such a situation Biden might feel OK letting the Democrats duke it out for a successor.’
