Max George and Maisie Smith have hit back at ‘concern’ over their 13-year age gap in their first joint interview as a couple.

The former EastEnders actress, 21, would have been just nine when the The Wanted singer, 34, shot to fame and released his first single in 2010.

The pair went official with their relationship in August and moved in together just weeks after meeting on the Strictly Come Dancing live arena tour.

Maisie addressed the backlash in this week’s issue of Hello! magazine, telling fans she has ‘never’ noticed the age difference due to the pair being so ‘like-minded’.

She said: ‘People ask me, “Do you notice it?” and I never have. We’re so like-minded. I’ve got friends in their 30s and 40s. You connect with who you connect with.’

Max added: ‘It never enters my mind. Maisie has already done so many things that I’m in awe of – I look up to her.’

She added: ‘When I get off a train, Max will be standing on the platform with a bouquet of flowers and I feel like I’m in a movie. It’s every girl’s dream and I’ve found it in Max.’

Max said: ‘Towards the end of the holiday, I could feel I was looking at her differently. I thought, “What’s happening here?” I was pretty nervous to see if it was reciprocated.’

Earlier this month Max showed off his love for Maisie as he debuted a new tattoo of his girlfriend’s face on his arm.

He debuted the new inking on social media, which sees Maisie’s face interspersed with that of a lion.

The tattoo is a replica of a photo of Maisie while she was on Strictly Come Dancing.

It’s not the first time Max has got a tattoo of a partner; he previously had an inking of ex-girlfriend Stacey Giggs’ tattooed on his wrist.

He later got it covered up with a rose and lion following their breakup.

Max split with Ryan Giggs’ ex-wife in August, before she accused him of cheating on her with his Strictly co-star.

It followed reports that Stacey was furious her former partner Max and his Strictly co-star were dating publicly, just days after they split.

The report claimed that Max and Stacey’s first split in March this year was due to Stacey becoming suspicious about her boyfriend’s close relationship with Maisie, who he had spent the previous two months with on the Strictly tour.

It was on July 28 that Max jetted to on holiday to Portugal to meet up with Maisie and mutual friends. According to Stacey he continued to deny he was with his Strictly co-star, telling her in phone calls that he was in Spain.

Stacey and Max initially got together in 2018, with Max previously calling Stacey ‘the one’, after meeting way back in 2011 at V festival.

The Wanted singer was dating actress Michelle Keegan at the time, while Stacey was still married to Manchester United player Ryan.
