EXCLUSIVE ‘There are some big, household names in it’: Megan McKenna reveals she’s auditioned for a Hollywood comedy movie starring A-list actors

Megan McKenna is dreaming of making it big in Hollywood after auditioning for a role in a comedy movie starring Oscar-nominated actors.

The reality star-turned-country singer, 29, was invited to screen test for the part in LA last month after impressing US studio bosses.

The comedy, details of which are being kept under wraps, will be Megan’s first foray into the movie industry having studied drama at theatre school during her teens.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Megan said: ‘I feel like it went well, I’m waiting to hear if I’ve got it.

‘There are some big, household names in it. It is kind of a big deal. It’s a funny movie so it was cool to learn the scripts.’

Landing a Hollywood movie would be another huge career coup for Megan who has successfully reinvented herself as a credible country singer after making her name in reality TV.

The former TOWIE star is playing Glastonbury for the first time this weekend – two-and-half years after winning Celebrity X Factor.

However, Megan admits her appearance this weekend may never have happened if she stayed with Simon Cowell’s Syco music label – her prize for winning the ITV show – as the mogul wanted to turn her into a pop star.

Simon disbanded the label in September 2020 which resulted in Megan joining an independent label who wanted her to remain a country singer, just like she was when she competed on Celebrity X Factor.

Megan explained: ‘I’ve always wanted to do country music but Syco wanted me to do pop.

‘They thought I would sell more records and get radio play but it wasn’t my love, I had writers’ block when I was in the studio.

‘So when the label closed down and I was released, it was a blessing in disguise as I’m now with a label who 100 per cent back me with my country music.’

Megan is determined to break Nashville, the home of country music, and hopes to relocate to the US if her music takes off there.

She’s not doing too badly in the UK either, topping the iTunes charts in 2020 with her hit single This and supporting Tom Jones and Simply Red on tour.

Megan is releasing new single Baby Talk this Friday as part of a new project called One Song A Week, which will see her bring out fresh material every seven days.

And she will be performing her new breakup anthem at Worthy Farm on Sunday on the Acoustic Stage.

Megan believes starring at the iconic festival is confirmation she’s being taken seriously in the industry.

She added: ‘It’s one of my biggest career moments yet, I’m so excited about being accepted in the industry.

‘Getting to play at Glastonbury says that to me. Glastonbury is the biggest in the world and artists would die to perform there. It’s going to be a really special day.’
