Nineteen Steps, which will be published September 12, is a history novel about a courageous 18-year-old woman called Nellie Morris who lives with her family in Bethnal Green, in London’s East End, while the second world war rages on around them.
When a tragic accident occurs during an air raid one night, the consequences are catastrophic – and life will never be the same again for Nellie.
‘Writing Nineteen Steps has been a really special project for me. The story is inspired by true events and my own family history,’ she explained while showing a photo of herself and her grandmother.
In a statement released via publisher William Morrow, the Screen Actors Guild Award winner revealed a few more details about her personal connection to the tale, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
‘Inspired by my Nanny Ruth, this book is very personal and close to my heart.
‘I grew up listening to stories about her time living through the war. I’m honored to keep her story alive.’
Millie and her fiancé, Jake Bongiovi, 21, the son of Jon Bon Jovi, recently got engaged after two years of dating.
The star recently revealed she has started wedding planning and it’s ‘so fun’ in a candid new interview.
The star also touched on her preference to keep her life private as she would rather save the special moments for herself.
She said of her upcoming big day: ‘I can say that the planning is going. It’s so fun. And it’s such an exciting time in my life.’
‘I think probably drawing the curtains, just because there are only so many moments in life that you get only once,’ she said.
‘And to have everyone’s opinions and eyes looking at that just feels unnatural to me,’ she said about wedding planning.
‘So I feel it’s important to keep those things — those small precious moments in life — really close to your chest.’
