Molly-Mae Hague opens up about ‘vicious circle’ of topping up her filler

‘I was embarrassed’: Molly-Mae Hague opens up about ‘vicious circle’ of topping up her filler and then getting it dissolved in the public eye

Molly-Mae Hague has opened up about feeling ’embarrassed’ about getting excessive amounts of filler in the past and feels ‘blessed’ she could ‘fix it’.

The former Love Islander, 23, in a recent interview spoke about getting her lips done at 18, thus beginning a ‘vicious circle’ of topping up the treatment.

The reality star famously documented herself getting her filler dissolved in 2020 – on her YouTube channel.

Molly has now said while it was a difficult thing to go through in the public eye, she ‘realised other girls are going through this as well’.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, the influencer explained she saw that it ‘could really be a bit of a movement’.

‘It was a big thing for me to be honest about that,’ she added, saying after coming out of Love Island the star got a ‘full package’ of the treatment for £500, targeting her cheeks, jaw and lips.

Sharing an excerpt of her upcoming book Becoming Molly Mae – set to be released next month – with the publication, she opened up about a shot of her in a 2019 vlog going viral as trolls rushed to mock her appearance following a filler procedure.

She described feeling ‘mortified’ at the response, and realised that filler didn’t make her feel ‘prettier’ or ‘better’.

‘Filler had made me feel worse,’ she wrote.

The star also spoke about her claim to fame – Love Island – as the highly anticipated dating show returns to screens next week for its eighth series.

While Molly explained she doesn’t ‘think going back into TV is for (her)’, she was personally happy with the support she received from the reality show when she came out of the villa.

‘I can’t fault the team. When we came out of the show they were incredible,’ she said. ‘I feel like they’d be there for me if I needed anything.’

In December last year the star admitted she felt she looked five years younger after getting her fillers dissolved.

Molly had said she didn’t recognise herself by the time she reached the age of 21, having had a variety of cosmetic procedures done.

The influencer has had her lip and jaw filler dissolved and her composite bonding veneers removed, saying she’s ‘terrified of (her)self’ when she looks at past pictures.

She said on The Diary Of A CEO with Steven Bartlett podcast: ‘I wouldn’t say I got addicted to it, but by the age of 21, I didn’t look like the same person.

‘I literally looked like a different person. When I look back at pictures now, I’m terrified of myself. I’m like, “Who was that girl?” I don’t know what happened.

‘But there was this one pivotal moment where I’d gone and got loads of filler and I posted a YouTube video and I hadn’t let the filler settle and it was really swollen and a screenshot from that video, it trended on Twitter for weeks.

‘It was horrendous. It was utterly horrendous. My face was literally like, it was just awful. That was the moment for me as well where I was like, I think things need to change.

‘I thought, one day I’m going to get my lips dissolved. It was a process. I went and got my lips dissolved and I posted about it on YouTube and I didn’t expect the response that I got. It was huge.’

The television personality – who is dating boxer Tommy Fury, 23, after they met on Love Island in 2019 – feels more comfortable in her own skin than she ever has done before, confessing she took her fillers to the ‘extreme’.

She explained: ‘The minute I started to reverse my image and dissolve the filler and dissolve my lips – I actually had a full set of composite bonding on my teeth, I had them removed as well.

‘I literally took it to the extreme and I just stripped myself back and weirdly, I felt the prettiest I’d ever felt, once it had all gone.

‘I feel like I’d dropped about five years off my age and it was like, it was a really, really significant moment for me.

‘I didn’t realise how much respect that would get me. I didn’t do it for respect, I did it for myself. I didn’t do it for anyone else, I did it because I knew that I needed to.’
