‘I had crushes on my older brother’s friends. I always picked which one I was going to marry,’ she explained. ‘I always fantasized about what my wedding would be like, what my husband would be like.’

Monette chalked up her first nine marriages to her desire to have sex while abiding by her strict Mormon religion.

She was raised to believe that ‘you always were supposed to have a husband’ and ‘you didn’t have sex outside of marriage.’

‘Intimacy was a big driving force for me, and so once I was with someone and we got to that point [of having sex], it was like, “We got to get married or we have to break up.” So it was usually the marriage,’ she said.

According to Monette, she only had sex before marriage with her last two husbands.

She has said ‘I do’ so many times that her daughter Mercedes and sister Marcie struggled to name all of her exes.

‘My first husband I knew in high school, and I told my sister I was going to marry him one day, and I married him two months later,’ she recalled.

Monette said they were ‘too young’ when they got married six days after they graduated high school, but they were together for 10 years before they got divorced.

She said she loved her fourth husband’s children and considered her fifth husband to be ‘one of the loves of my life.’

‘Husband number six, he just seemed so nice and kind, so I married him, and then I married him again. Dang it, if I didn’t marry those two twice, the number would go way down,’ she joked.

‘Number eight, I met him online, and then one week later we drove to Vegas and got married. Number nine was a very charismatic guy and just the kind of guy that you shouldn’t be attracted to but sometimes you are,’ she continued.

‘Number 10 I knew in elementary school. He’s a very good person, but we should have just stayed friends. Number 11, I’m not even going there with that one. There’s nothing to say.’

Monette couldn’t help but laugh when she revealed that she has ‘been proposed to over 28 times,’ but she insisted she had been optimistic about all 11 marriages.

‘Not one time did I go into a marriage thinking that it would end in divorce,’ she said. ‘Every single time I was like, “Please, let this be the one.”

‘So my whole life I’ve spent trying to force these men to live up to this elusive soulmate that I have in my head.’

‘And so I’m still going to hold on hope for finally having a good marriage.’
