A motorcyclist is lucky to be alive after an ‘idiot driver’ ploughed into the back of his motorbike while he was slowing down to stop at an intersection.

Video of the collision filmed in New South Wales shows the rider being thrown forwards as a black Subaru 4WD slams into his bike with a loud crunch.

The driver, who luckily wasn’t injured in the crash, calmly dismounts his bike and turns off the ignition before surveying the damage.

Footage from a camera mounted on the rider’s helmet reveals the back of his seat has become wedged inside the car’s hood.

Shocked drivers run towards the man as he clambers off his motorbike with one woman asking him: ‘Are you all right?’

Pieces of the crumpled Subaru are littered around the vehicle with the bumper almost detached from the hood.

As people on the scene leap into action the driver, a man wearing a white t-shirt, remains motionless in the front seat.

Viewers were quick to leave their thoughts in the comments, with many expressing their concern for the motorcyclist.

‘Bike rider was very lucky considering the lack of protective riding gear he had on. The road has no respect for bare elbows and knees,’ one wrote.

‘Granted he certainly wasn’t at fault but we as riders must protect ourselves form numpties on the road.…’

‘Glad everyone is ok! Why anyone would want to ride a bike in this day and age has me stuffed,’ another commented.

‘So many useless muppets driving cars blindfolded, it’s out of control! I don’t even feel safe in my ute.’

Many said the video proved why bikes were allowed to lane filter – where motorcyclists move alongside cars that have either stopped or moving slowly.

‘Need to save this video for every time some wind bag complains about bikes filtering,’ one said.

‘This is why lane splitting is allowed. Yet most car drivers get angry when you do it. Can’t win as a biker on the roads,’ another wrote.

‘Wow, this could have been so much worse for the rider, no protective clothing on except for the gloves and helmet,’ a third commented.

One motorcyclist said he revved his engine to alert drivers to his presence.

‘Causes a great deal of noise but alerts idiots,’ he explained.
