An Aussie mum has filmed her outrage after a popular supermarket doubled the price for a loaf of bread.

Mother-of-two Chantel Lobban was shocked to see the price hike during a grocery shop in Adelaide earlier this month.

A video shared with her 76,000 TikTok followers shows loaves of well known labels Tip Top on the shelves selling for $5.60 and several Wonder White varieties even higher at $6.20.

‘Bread just went from $3.60 to $6.20,’ a robotic voice says in the video.

‘It’s 8am and I’m effin confuzzled.’

The video also shows packs of bread rolls priced at $2.50.

Ms Lobban explained the clip was filmed at a Drakes supermarket.

The business describes itself at Australia’s biggest independent supermarket despite only having stores in South Australia and Queensland.

The video has gone viral with 715,000 views and hundreds of comments from flabbergasted viewers.

‘Gonna be an expensive year,’ one woman commented.

Another added: ‘Looks like I’m never moving out.’

A third wrote: ‘No more toast kids! It’s cheaper to give them mud cake for breakfast!’

Others weren’t surprised.

‘Welcome to inflation, prepare for the pain to increase,’ one warned.

Savvy shoppers urged the mum to shop elsewhere and buy generic loaves for a fraction of the price.

‘Hmmmm only pay $2.50 for bread. Don’t know where you are shopping,’ one wrote.

Some suggested Ms Lobban would be better off making her own bread.

Even farmers weighed into the online debate.

‘Don’t blame us farmers for the price rise. Supermarkets are making massive profits,’ one wrote.

Australia’s biggest supermarkets Woolworths and Coles both sell Wonder White and Tip Top bread varieties for $3.90 each.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Drakes for comment.

It comes amid warnings of more price pain at the checkout in 2023 after inflation rose to 7.8 per cent on Wednesday, its highest level in 33 years as Australia’s cost of living crisis worsens.
