Neighbours star Annie Jones reveals the staggering amount of episodes the new season of the soap has already filmed for Amazon ahead of debut
Neighbours will have over a hundred episodes in the bag by the time the debut episode of the rebooted soap airs on streaming platform Amazon next week.
On Friday’s episode of The Project, returning stars Annie Jones and Ryan Maloney said that the show, which has been filming since April, is more than ready for the new season.
‘We started filming in April, so it’s been a very long time for us to kind of keep everything really top-secret’ Ryan said.
‘I think we’re almost up to 100 episodes’ Annie piped up, with Ryan confirming, ‘Yeah, we did 100’.
He added: ‘That we’ve already done, so, yeah. I mean, we’ve also done 9,000, but we’re up to 100 for Amazon now, yeah.’
Elsewhere in the interview, Ryan hinted that some beloved characters could die due to the show’s two-year time jump.
‘There’s gonna be some of the best and some of the worst and everyone’s gonna have broken hearts’ he said.
‘There’s some new faces to fall in love with, and some old faces that have gone so you can cry’ Ryan went on, before coyly insisting he ‘doesn’t know’ if anyone will die.
Meanwhile, Annie said it has been ‘fantastic’ working with co-star Guy Pearce again.
The pair stole the show on the Neighbours finale last year when they reprised their respective characters Mike and Jane for the iconic drama’s swansong.
Executive producer Jason Herbison confirmed in May that Pearce would reprise his role on the soap opera, which was rebooted in April, and is being filmed Melbourne.
‘We are delighted that Guy is returning to continue Mike and Jane’s reunion, it was a highlight of last year’s finale and (there is) definitely more story to tell for these much-loved characters,’ Herbison said in a statement to The Sun Herald.
Pearce returned to Neighbours for the show’s finale in July last year.
His character, along with Jane Harris (portrayed by Annie Jones), was seen purchasing a home on Ramsay Street during the show’s last episode.
The Neighbours reboot premieres Monday, September 18 on Channel 10
