Netflix on Monday said it is ‘deeply saddened’ of the deaths of The Chosen One actors Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar in car accident in Mexico last week that left six others injured, after their vans flipped over near the Baja California Peninsula.
‘We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident that took the lives of Ray Garduño and Juan Francisco González,’ a spokesperson for the streamer said in a statement Monday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ‘Our thoughts are with their loved ones and with those injured during this unfortunate accident.’
A spokesperson for Redrum, the production company that makes the series, said in a statement that it was ‘shocked’ by the ‘tragic accident’ that took place June 16, and ‘closely supporting all those affected by this unspeakable tragedy.’

The company, which has temporarily suspended production on the show in the wake of the tragedy, said it ‘has been cooperating with local authorities and initial reports and accounts from witnesses indicate that all safety protocols were in place and this was an unfortunate accident.’
Both actors were reported dead by the Baja California Department of Culture, according to the Independent.
The deadly accident did not happen on the set of the production, THR reported, as the van was headed to a nearby airport from Santa Rosalía at the time of the crash.
A source close to production told the outlet that the six others in the vehicle – two actors and four crew members – were in stable condition.

A spokesperson for SAG-AFTRA issued a statement following the tragedy, Deadline reported, saying the organization ‘has been in contact with Netflix and with the Mexican actors union ANDA about this incident and we are investigating the circumstances with local production.
‘On set safety is always our top priority. We will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure that our members and others are safe in their workplace.’
The actors were filming a show the centered around a 12-year-old boy who finds out he is the second coming of Christ, TMZ reported. The series is based off a comic book by Mark Millar and artist Peter Gross and the crew began filming in April, according to Comicbook.
There is no release for the series and it was unclear how Netflix will proceed moving forward.
