Dana Carr, 24, formerly of Shotton Colliery, County Durham, appeared before Teesside Crown Court today charged with allowing the death of a child and a second charge of child cruelty.

Little Maya was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after emergency services were called to reports of a medical incident at a home in Shotton Colliery on Wednesday, September 28.

She died on Friday, September 30 after two days in intensive care at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Daymond was charged with her murder in October last year.

Judge Howard Crowson vacated a trial date set for Daymond in March to enable time for both defendants to be tried at the same time.

No pleas were entered by the pair to any of the charges.

Draymond was remanded in custody while Carr was released on bail until her next hearing.

A further hearing will take place on Friday, January 20 to set a new trial date for the pair but neither defendant is required to appear in court.
