NYPD give all-clear after World Trade Center station was evacuated over bomb scare caused by ‘suspicious item’, which turned out to be a pressure cooker on a PATH train
- A suspicious item was found on a train in New York City’s Financial District
- PATH trains to the World Trade Center were stopped but have since resumed
- The suspicious package is believed to have been a pressure cooker, which was left in the last car of a PATH train arriving from Newark, New Jersey
The NYPD evacuated the World Trade Center station in New York City on Tuesday afternoon after a ‘suspicious package’ was found in the building.
Cops put out an urgent warning just before 3.30pm urging people to keep clear of the Oculus transportation hub because of the package, which they now believe is a pressure cooker.
It’s believed the cooker was left in the last car of a PATH train from Newark in New Jersey, which sat at the station for over an hour before it was found.
But at 4pm police gave the all-clear and said the package was no longer a concern.

Members of the Army were seen at the Oculus transportation hub following the scare. Witnesses were evacuated and heard helicopters flying over the building
Earlier in the day, witnesses say they were rushed out of the station in the Big Apple’s Financial District amid the evacuation alert.
The NYPD said: ‘Due to a police investigation please avoid The Oculus at this time.’
There were no PATH trains running to or from the World Trade Center. But from 4pm, the service was working again.
Footage from the scene showed police, bomb squads, and members of the Army enforcing a cordon as frantic commuters scrambled out of the building.
Emergency vehicles, including NYPD vans and helicopters, were seen outside the area as police probed and evacuated the station.
The Oculus – which is the transportation hub that houses the World Trade Center’s subway and PATH stations – is one of the buildings erected following the Twin Tower attacks in 2001.
PATH Trains confirmed the line suspension earlier: ‘HOB-WTC remains suspended. NWK-WTC is operating NWK-EXPL. PAPD continues to investigate an incident at WTC.’
