Pregnant influencer Emily Mitchell’s cause of death revealed – New York Post

A medical examiner has determined the cause of death for Emily Mitchell, a lifestyle influencer who tragically died, along with her unborn child, just days before Christmas.

Mitchell, who was expecting her fifth child, was eating breakfast on the morning of December 22 when she suddenly became unresponsive. Efforts to save the 36-year-old and her fetus were unsuccessful.

The Rhode Island-based blogger, who ran the Hidden Way Instagram account, died of a pulmonary embolism, according to a GoFundMe page for the family, which announced the medical examiner’s findings on Tuesday.

A pulmonary embolism involves a clot in the arteries of a person’s lungs. The condition is common, but can be fatal. Pregnant women are often at higher risk.

A friend announced the update on behalf of Mitchell’s husband, Joseph.

“A few days ago we learned from the state Medical Examiners Office that the official cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. Although it is challenging to wrap our heads around how this could have happened, we know all first responders and medical personnel did everything they could to help, and therefore we are certain that it was simply her time; the Lord was calling her home.”

Mitchell shared the news of her most recent pregnancy with her 174,000 followers on November 19. It’s unclear when the baby, which the couple had named Joey, was due. On December 8, she wrote to her followers that she would be undergoing her fifth cesarean section.

Her social-media account shared the ups and downs of raising and home-schooling her four children, Finn, Isla, Edie and Luna, as well as faith.

“Beautiful inside and out, Emily had an infectious smile and a kind, compassionate spirit,” her online obituary read. “Her exuberant personality radiated outwardly in her interactions and relationships with all who knew her. Emily was a symbol of strength during the most challenging of times for so many.”
