PS5 PlayStation 5 1

How much will the PlayStation 5 cost? We should find out officially during the PS5 Showcase Event tomorrow, but Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Masahiro Wakasugi believes that the console could be priced as low as $449 – while its digital counterpart could “dip below $400”. That would be outrageously aggressive pricing for a system that many are expecting to pay upwards of $500 for.

News overnight speculated that the Japanese giant would have to cut production this fiscal year by four million units due to lower than expected component yields, although this would still result in around 11 million units being manufactured by the end of March 2021 – a number which should culminate in higher initial shipments than even the wildly successful PlayStation 4.

Sony is clearly planning for a gigantic launch, and has iterated on multiple occasions that it intends to transition fans at an unprecedented pace. This would all suggest that it’s going to launch at an agreeable PS5 price point, but even with these predictions from Bloomberg, we’ll need to wait for official word from the manufacturer before believing anything we read.
