How long will Amazon be able to keep it in stock?

The first stores to offer pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 console have already run out of stock, but more are expected later today.

PlayStation 5 UK pre-orders have gone live today, just hours after Sony announced the price and release date of the console.

Xbox Series X/S pre-orders don’t begin until Tuesday, 22 September but PlayStation 5 ones are live already, although only at specific stores.

The PlayStation 5 will launch on 19 November in Europe but will be out from 12 November in most of the rest of the world, with reports that pre-orders have already sold out in New Zealand.

The first few stores to put pre-orders live in the UK have also sold out but they’re believed to be getting more stock allocation soon and Amazon.co.uk has only just gone live (at 9am but, so far, not including the Digital Edition) so if you’re quick you should be able to get lucky there.

Other stores are also expected to start taking pre-orders this morning, so we’ll try and keep this article updated with news as it happens.

PS5 console pre-orders in the UK

Amazon.co.uk – pre-order for £449.99
Currys PC World – pre-order for £449 (site currently down)
Very – pre-order for £449.99 (sold out)
GAME – pre-order for £449.99 (sold out)
Smyths – pre-order for £449.99 (sold out)

PS5 Digital Edition console pre-orders in the UK

Currys PC World – pre-order for £359 (site currently down)
Very – pre-order for £359.99 (sold out)
GAME – pre-order for £359.99 (sold out)
Smyths – pre-order for £359.99 (sold out)

While it’s true that the consoles were cheaper than many expected there’s increasing concern about the price of new first party games, which is up to £70 in many cases – more even than the £65 already revealed for third party titles.

At the moment though, there’s no indication of that having any negative effect on pre-orders, which are probably going to sell out instantly everywhere. Although Sony has denied reports that production problems will mean 4 million less consoles than originally expected.
