Quality Street changes the wrapping on the Green Triangle

You’re not foiling anyone! Quality Street changes the wrapping on the Green Triangle to bronze – claiming there’s been a ‘shortage’

  • Quality Street swapped wrapping of chocolate triangles from green to copper
  • Said were forced to make the swap after ran out of tin foil at their Halifax factory
  • Swore the move is not a publicity stunt but a happy accident ahead of holidays

Quality Street is the latest chocolate brand to launch an attention-grabbing change to its offering ahed of the lucrative Christmas market – by changing the wrapping on the Green Triangle sweet to copper.

The confectionery brand will be rolling out the festive triangle in a ‘rare’ copper foil, after allegedly running out of the green wrappers at their Halifax factory.

Only a small number of the gold wrappers will be available.

Quality Street senior brand manager Jemma Handley claimed that the move is ‘not a publicity stunt’, even though the announcement comes after Celebrations garnered national attention when they revealed they would be offering Bounty-free tubs of sweets over the holiday period.

Quality Street said workers at its factory got the idea to use a copper wrapping when they ran out of green foil, and that only a few tubs with the alternative Green Triangle will be available around the country.

Meanwhile, the brand switched the Orange Crunch’s wrapping paper to a brown colour to differentiate it from the temporary wrappers of the hazelnut triangles.

Meanwhile, the chocolates inside the wrappers have not changed one bit.

The move comes as Quality Street is working to reduce the packaging of its sweets in the tubs.

Quality Street’s Senior Brand Manager, Jemma Handley, said: ‘I promise this isn’t a publicity stunt. We’ve not added full size chocolate bars to the tin or removed the coconut flavour from a handful of tubs.

‘We simply didn’t have enough of the right coloured foil to cover the production run of the two sweets in question and, rather than leave them out of the selection altogether, we decided to use different colours for a very limited period,’ she added.

‘We are fairly sure this is the first time this has happened so anybody who finds a green triangle or an orange crunch in a different coloured foil will have something of rarity on their hands. I am pleased to say that it’s the same delicious hazelnut and orange sweets inside the wrappers, regardless of their colour,’ she went on.
