Real Housewives Of Atlanta: Porsha Williams cries at party honoring her work with Black Lives Matter

Porsha Williams cried during a surprise party held to honor her work with the Black Lives Matter movement on Sunday’s episode of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta.

Kenya Moore, 49, meanwhile lashed out at Porsha, 39, after being denied entry to the party.

Although the event was intended to honor Porsha’s activism, Kenya managed to nonetheless make it about her.

‘That’s really f***ed up,’ said Kenya, who was furious when she learned that Porsha’s sister Lauren had asked that she not come. ‘What am I gonna do? Protest at her celebration?’

‘Did y’all know about this?’ Kenya called out to the show’s producers, who said from another room inside her home that they’d had no idea.

‘Someone is paying for my hair and makeup,’ the haircare mogul insisted.

To the cameras, Kenya said, ‘Who would not take someone rescinding an invitation as an insult, if you’re over here speaking about unity and Black Lives Matter?’

Kenya then called Kandi Burruss, 44, and told her that she thought the party was ‘extremely self-serving and fake,’ calling it ‘just a photo op.’

‘Why is it that she always manages to get arrested on camera?’ she asked of Porsha, which led Kandi to note that perhaps it was better Kenya didn’t come.

Last summer, Porsha was twice arrested at protests for the late Breonna Taylor, the victim of police violence in Kentucky.

She’d been newly galvanized by the Black Lives Matter movement and felt connected to activism as the granddaughter of late civil rights leader Hosea Williams.

Cynthia Bailey, 53, had invited Kenya to the party as her plus-one, and even though Kenya and Porsha were not close, Kenya was game to attend.

Kenya even had a Rosa Parks doll she was eager to give Porsha’s one-year-old daughter, Pilar Jhena.

But then Cynthia called with bad news: Lauren had texted her saying she was ‘apprehensive’ about Kenya attending.

‘I wouldn’t even want to chance ruining this night for P,’ Lauren had written. ‘Please don’t bring Kenya.’

Porsha had no idea about the event, and thought she was simply going out with pals that day.

She gabbed with Marlo Hampton, 44, and Tanya Sam about separating from her fiancé Dennis McKinley, 44, with whom she was co-parenting Pilar.

With Porsha distracted, Lauren decorated the event space with photos of her sister and tributes to Black victims of police violence.

Porsha was stunned and moved to tears when she showed up.

‘It means a lot to me, because what I do is for the people,’ Porsha told her friends.

She was handed Kenya’s gift for Pilar, and laughed as the little girl immediately came running when she heard her name.

‘Kenya and I tried being cool,’ Porsha said of her castmate. ‘It didn’t work out. So I’m cool with just being like, meh.’

Porsha gave a speech as the party closed, saying she had set her own well-being aside and gone to jail over Breonna’s case because she felt that everyone should be treated ‘like humans.’

‘We all work hard, right?’ she said. ‘We wanna dress nice, we wanna have a nice house, we wanna have a nice car, we wanna have all that. But guess what? None of that matters at this moment. If somethin’ happened to you, if you get killed… It could have happened to any of us. And that’s why complacency is not something we have the right to live in no more.’

‘The tears that I cry at night, the tears that I know all y’all cry at night, wipe ’em in the morning and do something about it,’ she finished.

Cynthia loved the speech, saying that as Black women they had to support each other.

‘I am so here for Porsha Luther King,’ she affirmed.

Earlier in the season 13 episode titled From One Surprise to Another, Cynthia had her own drama with fiancé Mike Hill, 50, to whom she was supposed to get married on October 10, 2020.

She’d told Mike that if they didn’t get the wedding venue she wanted because of coronavirus shutdowns, she might postpone the event.

When she told Kenya during a yoga class, she helped her realize that Mike might feel like she wasn’t truly into the marriage and that it was about showing off for RHOA.

‘Let’s just break the fourth wall all the way down,’ Cynthia said. ‘Even if I wasn’t on a show…’

‘That’s not what you’re saying,’ Kenya interrupted. ‘That’s not what you’re doing. If you have committed to this date, then why are you not committing to it?’

‘I will marry Mike outside on the sidewalk if I have to,’ said Cynthia, who later apologized to her fiancé and wrote her vows.

She was married as planned on October 10, at the Governors Towne Club, in Acworth, Georgia.

Over lunch with Kandi that week, Kenya mentioned Cynthia’s desire for a bigger wedding.

‘Last time she did it in the midst of brokeness,’ Kandi reflected, referring to their pal’s previous marriage. ‘Now she got a little coin, she wants to do it right, without the stress.’

Kenya said she felt guilty for having nearly ruined Mike’s proposal to Cynthia last season, and wanted to make it up to her.

She told Kandi she was hosting a surprise engagement party for her the following Friday, and asked Kandi to be the official host.

Kenya also revealed that she had done shots with LaToya Ali, 34, recently as video was shown of them talking flirtatiously.

That led Kandi to joke about sending Kenya some ‘Bedroom Kandi’ items, and she privately quipped, ‘This little bi-curious situation she got is new…’

New RHOA cast member Drew Sidora, 35, and her husband Ralph Pittman were then shown having a couples counseling session with relationship expert Love McPherson.

It was one of their many attempts at dealing with their marital issues over the past six years.

On their last wedding anniversary, they’d had the biggest fight of their marriage, and they both knew they needed to see someone again.

‘We have serious problems that we really need to commit to working out and fixing quickly,’ Drew said in a confessional.

During the counseling session, she told Love that she wanted more transparency from Ralph about what he was doing when he wasn’t with her.

She asked him to be more peaceful and less angry, and also requested that he show more affection toward her son Josiah, nine.

When Ralph was asked what he wanted, he said: ‘Respect and sex.’

He felt that Drew ’emasculated’ him, and he craved sex three times a week, which he called ‘conservative.’

Love got Ralph to reveal that he’d had a tough childhood in which he’d taken care of his mom but finally felt forced to leave her to fend for herself.

When he left, she got evicted and finally apologized to him.

Love suggested he was trying to get something from Drew by constantly leaving her without explanation.

Drew cried and Ralph told her he was sorry, though she didn’t quite believe him.

The couple would soon grow closer after they learned that Ralph’s father had a heart attack and passed away.

Ralph redoubled his commitment to Drew, saying, ‘Tomorrow is not promised,’ and confessing, ‘I gotta love you for you.’
