Actor Rob Lowe has revealed that caustic comments he made about Prince William‘s baldness last month were actually a reflection on his own insecurity.
The eighties teen heartthrob, who’s about to be seen on UK screens in Lincolnshire police drama Wild Bill, had called watching the 36-year-old royal’s hair loss ‘one of the great traumatic experiences of my life’.
However, appearing on Good Morning Britain today, the 55-year-old star, said he loved the royal and had only made the remarks because he was narcissistic himself – and added that the prince was a stud!

Earlier this year, Lowe told the Daily Telegraph: ‘Can we talk about William? The future king of your country let himself lose his hair!’
He added: ‘Honestly, one of the great traumatic experiences of my life was watching Prince William lose his hair. He’s going to be the f***ing king of England!’
The actor revealed he’d been taking a pill to fight against hair loss, saying: ‘The first glimmer that a single hair of mine was going to fall out, I was having that stuff mainlined into my veins. And that’s what I did for the next 30 years.’
The comments caused a furore on the UK side of the Pond, and the actor used the GMB interview to clarify what he’d meant, saying they’d been lost in translation.
GMB host Piers Morgan teased the star about how his wife, journalist Celia Walden, had admitted being ‘distracted’ by Lowe during an interview with him earlier this year

He told the show’s presenters, Piers Morgan and Susannah Reid, the comments said ‘more about me than him.’
He added: ‘My point was here’s a guy who is fully comfortable in his own skin, then on the other side of the coin you have me, I can’t even watch another guy go bald without being even more narcissistic and wanting to plug in the propecia into a drip into my own.
The well-groomed star added: ‘This is my thing, I saw the hubbub it caused on your side of the pond, I think it’s a case of two countries divided by a common language. Because that was literally me slagging my own insecurity and narcissism. He’s a stud, I love him. He’s awesome.’
The prince has accepting his thinning crown with grace. His mane of blonde hair began to disappear around 2009 around the same time he became engaged to Kate Middleton.
By 2016, the top of his hair was gone and in 2018 he admitted defeat and opted for a bold shaved head look.
