Ryan Reynolds was seen getting into character while filming scenes on Coney Island for the upcoming fantasy comedy titled, Imaginary Friends, on Friday.
The Deadpool actor, 47 – who affectionately held hands with wife Blake Lively on a recent stroll in NYC – was seen standing on the boardwalk to film content for the movie after the SAG-AFTRA strike came to an official end on Thursday.
The 118-day strike notably halted Hollywood productions until the union came to a ‘tentative agreement’ on Wednesday with the studios, per The Hollywood Reporter.
He added a pair of suspenders that easily wrapped around his shoulders and slipped into a pair of black and white-colored dress shoes.
Reynolds also layered his outfit with a black jacket that was buttoned at the front to help him stay warm in the cooler, fall temperatures.
He was seen surrounded by a film crew as he stepped onto set on the boardwalk on Coney Island. Amusement park rides could be seen in the background as he got into his character.
At one point, he was briefly joined by co-star and The Walking Dead alum, Cailey Fleming, who sported a pair of brown plaid pants as well as a long-sleeved sweater.
She stayed comfortable in blue sneakers that were secured with laces and also wore a gold-chained necklace with a circular pendant.
Ryan was last seen shooting scenes for the anticipated project late last year in November in Brooklyn.
The film is both written and directed by Office alum, John Krasinski, with the actor also taking on a role in the fantasy movie – which is slated to hit theaters next year on May 17, 2024.
Alongside Reynolds and Fleming, and star-studded cast also includes Steve Carrell, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Vince Vaughn as well as Maya Rudolph and Awkwafina.
The premise follows, ‘a young girl who goes through a difficult experience and then begins to see everyone’s imaginary friends who have been left behind as their real-life friends have grown up,’ per an official IMDB synopsis.
John previously opened up about the film – which he is also co-producing – and stated, per Deadline, ‘I had this idea for a movie years ago about imaginary friends.’
Steve Carrell has also discussed joining the project in the past, as well as reuniting with his former Office co-star, John, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight last year.
‘Well, I haven’t started working on the film with him yet, but I can’t wait,’ he stated at the time.
The actor continued, ‘I’m anticipating just joy and fun. I mean, he’s the best, and he’s a great director.’
He humorously explained that he planned to have a blast on set with Krasinski. ‘I’ll put him through his paces, you know? I’ll make him work for it. I might be one of those persnickety actors that doesn’t always agree, or won’t come out of my trailer.’
John is no stranger to stepping behind the camera, and also directed successful movies such as A Quiet Place (2018) as well as the sequel A Quiet Place Part II (2021).
The star is also directing the third installment in the franchise titled A Quiet Place: Day One which is slated to premiere in theaters next year in June 2024.
Along with Imaginary Friends, Ryan is also starring in Deadpool 3 with Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Morena Baccarin, Emma Corrin and also Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen.
The Marvel project is also scheduled to hit theaters for fans later next summer in July 2024, although it had originally been set to release a few months earlier in May, according to Deadline.
Last month in October, Reynolds opened up to Page Six in regards to mental health and his struggle with anxiety. He admitted that at times, he feels his mental health is ‘out of control.’
‘I certainly have my own little rituals and those kinds of things that help me stay grounded and keep my mind from spinning out of control,’ he explained, adding, ‘Sometimes I’m really good at it, sometimes I’m not.’
