‘She’s a strong one’: Selma Blair says her friend Christina Applegate is ‘nailing it’ when it comes to tackling multiple sclerosis

Christina Applegate and Selma Blair have been friends for years, but now that both are dealing with multiple sclerosis, their bond seems to have become stronger. 

‘Oh gosh, I’ve known Christina for so many years,’ Selma, 50, told Entertainment Tonight. ‘We’re really close, and I’m just a fan of hers.’

The two met some 20 years ago on the set of the 2002 romantic comedy The Sweetest Thing, and have continued to support each other in good times and bad.

The Dancing with the Stars alum returned to the show recently to take part in the season finale.  Selma had to bow out from the competition due to health concerns. 

Christina, 50, announced she had been diagnosed with the degenerative disorder in August 2021. The Bad Moms star didn’t make a public appearance after her diagnosis until she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame November 14. Selma was there to cheer her on.  

In speaking about her longtime pal, the Another Life star contended Christina is tackling the disease like she would any other challenge.

‘There has not been one thing that she’s done that I haven’t been like, “Nailed it,” and she’s nailing just being who she is with this MS.’

MS is not Christina’s first health struggle. The Dead to Me star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. The disease was in the early stages, but due to carrying the BRCA1 gene mutation, decided to undergo a double mastectomy. The actress had her fallopian tubes and ovaries removed in 2017 to prevent developing ovarian cancer, which can also be caused by the BRCA1 mutation.

‘She’s such a nurturer. If you need something, she’s at your house. There have been things that I had been unglued, and she’s like, “I’m outside. Answer the door.” She’s just amazing and strong and fun.’

The Anger Management star has been on hand to offer advice about accessories to aid mobility. 

‘I’m more like, “OK, if you need help with canes,” and that stuff, ’cause I’m like, really into all of that, like all the things that help me get around, but she’s getting it locked down.
