Soapwatch with Jaci Stephen: Lola’s big day emergency

  • On Albert Square, Linda struggles to carry on without Mick around
  • Justin’s communication with Daisy takes a turn, forcing her to block him
  • Tensions rise between Priya and Leyla as accusations of sabotage fly

EASTENDERS

Lola is stressing about her hen do because she thinks she looks a mess. But despite her terminal illness, she’s looking great. She’s still not feeling well on the big day, so Kim takes her to hospital.

As Jay waits at the register office, Lola tells Kim she can’t get married. Will the wedding go ahead?

Meanwhile, Billy manages to track down Lola’s mum, Emma (our first sighting of Patsy Kensit), but will she want to go to the wedding? I’m exhausted already.

Where are the vol-au-vents and cheap sparkling wine? Jay’s even forgotten to book the reception (one job you had to do, mate! One job!), but Linda springs into action at The Vic.

Dress to impress

Danielle Harold, who plays Lola, says some ‘signature Lola-isms’ were worked into the wedding outfit, including ‘glitzy wedding trainers with ribbons and, of course, her hoops.’

It’s all a bit sad, with Linda asking Jay how he copes with knowing that Lola will die of her incurable brain tumour. He’s getting married, Linda! Give the guy five minutes of happiness.

Patrick then counsels Linda about how to move forward without Mick. I’ve managed it well enough. Mick who?

How long do you reckon it will be before Alfie and Linda get together? At least Alfie’s calmed down his OTT wooing of Kat. Any more of that and I’d have wanted Keeble’s gun to shut him up.

Sam has a touch of guilt when she sees Jack and Ricky Jr heading for the police station, when she’s off to Germany with Ricky.

She’s in for a bigger shock when Ricky goes down on one knee, holding a ring. Stay in Walford, Sam – and tell Jack to buy another overcoat. It doesn’t fit you, Jack! It hasn’t since 2015.

CORONATION STREET

Off-camera breeding is the reason why so many long-lost relatives turn up in Soapland. George’s sister Glenda has been a huge success and is hilarious; can we hope for the same from Daisy’s mum, Christina (Amy Robbins)?

Daisy says she’s not welcome at the wedding, and it’s left to Daniel to build bridges, but let’s just say he’s no Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Will Daisy relent when Daniel dupes her into dining with Christina at the Bistro?

Surely Daisy needs as many people on her side as possible, given the persistence of Justin – he’s showing disturbing stalker tendencies, which prompt Daisy to block him on social media. Christina looks as if she could land a decent right hook, and maybe that’s the only way Justin will get the message.

Get the Kleenex out, because there’s a very sad death – Cilla the chinchilla. But is Peanut the dog the killer? Maybe it’s Peanut that Daisy needs to set on Justin.

Talking of killers, Stephen is horrified when he realises there’s CCTV footage of his attack on Teddy at the factory. Later, he invites Elaine to dinner, which should make her very afraid – with Stephen, there’s a fair chance she’s on the menu as dead meat.

Like daughter, like mother…

Corrie’s Daniel is so underwhelmed by Daisy’s wedding planning, you can’t help wondering if he’ll need a speech coach just to get the words ‘I do’ out on the big day. Charlotte Jordan (Daisy) observes that her character has become ‘a bit of a bridezilla’ in her preparations – while getting as many freebies from social media as she can.

And how does Daisy feel about the arrival of her mum? Charlotte notes the similarities: ‘They both like to be a bit glamorous… and they both like men.’

EMMERDALE

Leyla’s on course for a collision with Priya

You have to feel just a bit sorry for Leyla. One minute she’s the toast of every man in the village, then she’s a failed businesswoman and drug addict with a broken marriage behind her. And let’s not forget her once discovering that best friend Priya was having an affair with her fiancé Pete.

Priya insists she had no idea Justin had offered Leyla the job, but Leyla accuses Priya (both above) of sabotage

Now, it looks as if the two women are on a collision course again when Leyla’s client Justin offers her a job in London, but then offers it to Priya after asking her out for a coffee (last of the big spenders).

He’s impressed with her opening up about her past trauma. How long does she intend to milk this for? She insists she had no idea Justin had offered Leyla the job, but Leyla accuses Priya (both above) of sabotage.

Leopardesses don’t change their spots, Leyla! It would be surprising if either woman could find their way to London; the only chance of leaving the village is on the bus that arrives every six months.

And even when it does come, the odds are it will crash. The only real way out is to be kidnapped in a car boot – as many have discovered.

In other business news, Bob and Bernice decide to go into partnership and buy the B&B, but Mandy is concerned that, despite having suggested it, she’s created a monster. How could anyone tell, in that village? Most days, it’s like Fraggle Rock on acid.
