- In Coronation Street, Teddy makes a mistake by following Stephen into factory
- Meanwhile in Eastenders, Zack faces up to the fact he might have HIV
- The penny drops for Sarah in Emmerdale over Chloe’s mysterious baby daddy
We’ve been on the edge of our seats wondering who Stephen’s next victim will be. The smart money was on irritating ex-wife Gabrielle, then we feared that Elaine – telly legend Paula Wilcox – was going to have a terrible accident after Stephen started sniffing around her assets.
This week, our hearts are in our mouths as we see him offer to help Rita carry her shopping. What could on-his-uppers Stephen possibly see in the wealthy 90-year-old widow?
Luckily, his attentions are urgently focused elsewhere. The whispering killer’s been on tenterhooks since Teddy woke up from his coma, after his convenient running over by a transit van.
Now, Stephen’s wishing he’d pulled those tubes out in hospital when he had the chance, as Teddy’s made an only-in-the-soaps miraculous recovery and is hanging around the Rovers droning on about his missing son Leo.
Viewers have been on the edge of their seats wondering who Stephen’s next victim will be – with Teddy getting into a confrontation with the killer
TODD’S A TERROR
Toyd Boyce says his co-stars are worried by his character Stephen’s killing spree, fearing they might be next.
‘They keep asking, “How long are you gonna be in the show?”
‘They’re sweating it!’
Which, of course, is not Stephen’s favourite topic of conversation. Luckily, Teddy seems to have forgotten that just before he hit the tarmac, he’d worked out Stephen had something to do with Leo going AWOL.
So, when Teddy has a flash of memory about the accident, Stephen’s in a panic. Teddy can’t quite piece things together, but divine intervention strikes when a comment from the very holy Billy brings another flashback – and this time it’s a biggie.
Teddy soon accosts Stephen in the street, having worked out that he killed his son. But he makes a fatal mistake when he lets Stephen take him into the factory to ‘talk’.
Because in this case, ‘talk’ is a euphemism for ‘fatally whack him over the head with a photo frame’ (above). But it’s Stephen’s face that’s a picture when he realises he’s got himself another corpse to dispose of…
The soap returns there this week, with another young man, this time Zack, facing up to the fact he might have contracted HIV
WILL PATSY KEEP MUM?
With Lola and Jay deep in wedding plans this week, maid of honour Kim touches a nerve when she mentions Lola’s mum Emma. After Lexi also asks about her absent grandma, Lola talks to Jay about trying to find her.
While Jay’s not sure it’s a good idea, it’s great news for viewers, with actress Patsy Kensit joining the cast to play the role of Emma. The former Holby City star has long spoken of her desire for a Walford visit.
Could she impress enough to make this guest role long-term?
EastEnders was a trailblazer when it came to the issue of HIV. Mark Fowler standing in front of mum and dad Pauline and Arthur on Boxing Day 1991 to explain his diagnosis did more to advance the public’s understanding of HIV and Aids than the government’s grim campaign – all icebergs and tombstones – ever could.
The soap returns there this week, with another young man, this time Zack, facing up to the fact he might have contracted the condition. The fact that Whitney is expecting his baby only adds to the pressure.
Hiding away from the truth, he throws himself into winning the head chef role at Walford East, but with his mind not on the job, he smashes a glass and cuts his hand. Seeing the bleeding makes Zack realise he has to get tested. He also starts to face up to things with Whitney, after learning that she’s waiting for test results on their baby. What does the future hold for the three of them?
Another issue from the early years, teen pregnancy, is back too. In 1985 Michelle Fowler caused a scandal getting pregnant at 16, and this time it’s her niece Lily who’s in the family way, aged just 12.
Martin tries to persuade Stacey she should have an abortion, but it’s Lily who takes control and tells her mum and dad she’s made a decision.
WATCH YOUR BACK CHLOE, SARAH’S ON THE SCENT…
Watch your back Chloe, Sarah’s on the scent… Chloe’s had an unlucky run of half-finished plots since she arrived in the village
Chloe’s had an unlucky run of half-finished plots since she arrived in the village. In the beginning, she looked like she could be some sort of ghoulish obsession story as Sarah tracked down the sister of her heart donor.
Then Chloe had a gangster dad who looked like he was the big new bad guy, before disappearing as quickly as he arrived. Even Kerry’s revelation that she was Chloe’s mum came as she was practically walking out of the door with passport in hand.
So, it’s come as some relief that this pregnancy storyline at least gives us nine months of consistent drama, with some big, juicy secrets ready to be revealed. This week, things ramp up as Sarah realises something odd is going on.
She clocks a testy exchange after Mack, desperate to get his dirty secret out of the house, reveals to unwanted guest Chloe (above) that he’s put a deposit on a flat for her. Soon, the penny drops for Sarah over Chloe’s mysterious baby daddy and she confronts her friend.
Chloe has to pull out all the stops to put Sarah off the scent. Luckily, the scriptwriters aren’t quite ready for this revelation to explode yet, so she manages it. Elsewhere, pint-sized sharp-shooter Kyle learns his fate, but Cain is stunned to find out that he can’t be at the hearing.
Whatever the verdict, just make sure you’ve locked up the firearms this time.
