Annabel Croft embraced the Latin party spirit with her Shakira inspired samba on Saturday night.
The former tennis player let her hair down as she wowed the judges with her racy performance to Whenever Wherever alongside partner Johannes Radebe, 36.
It was a huge change in tone for the star, 57, who performed an elegant contemporary couple’s choice last week in an emotional tribute to her late husband Mel Coleman.
But Annabel unexpectedly rose to the challenge as she shimmy and shaked her way through the number.
Impressing the judges, Craig Revel Horwood announced: ‘You have finally given yourself permission to go wild.’
Both Craig and Motsi Mabuse admitted that they were apprehensive as to how Annabel would tackle the samba and were happily surprised by her performance.
Speaking to Claudia Winkleman after the performance, Annabel revealed how much fun she had had during training this week.
Joking about how she had no choice but to give it her all when she is dancing beside Johannes, she teased: ‘Watching him I thought, well I’ve got to try at least mirror him!’
And the public loved it too as they headed to Twitter to congratulate the star.
One wrote: ‘Loved this Samba from @AnnabelCroft & @jojo_radebe. Annabel is going from strength to strength. I think it was a brilliant routine.’
While another added: ‘Go Annabel you go girl @Annabel_Croft just brilliant to watch you dance your inner @shakira She looks amazing’.
Another penned: ‘I feel like this is finally @Annabel_Croft’s “I AM HERE” dance on #Strictly’.
Referring to her grief, another commented: ‘ Almost like she told her and husband’s story last week and decided ok….onwards and upwards….what have I got to lose? … The worst has happened so I’ll have a ruddy good time.’
It comes after Annabel admitted earlier in the week that her dance partner was determined to bring out her sexy side.
Speaking to The Sun, she confessed: ‘Johannes is trying to bring that sexy side out. The plan is I channel my inner Shakira, but it’s going to be quite hard to match her.
‘It’s a bit out of my comfort zone to be honest, I’m sweating a lot more than I expected!’
Yet Johannes made it his mission to bring the inner Shakira out of Annabel.
‘I think everybody has a Shakira in them. Unfortunately we can’t have a few Proseccos before we dance, but I always believed that everybody, when they’re feeling comfortable, they can really, really go for gold,’ he said.
