Horror as cyclist is killed after crashing into a broken-down truck on the side of the road

  • Man, 51, collided with the stationary truck at a Sunshine Coast intersection
  • Incident occurred at 4.30am Caloundra Rd-Pierce Ave corner, Corbould Park
  • Police appeal for witnesses or dashcam footage to determine cause of the crash 

A cyclist has died after slamming into a broken down truck in the early hours of Wednesday morning. 

The 51-year-old man struck the stationary truck shortly before 4.30am on the Sunshine Coast.

A Queensland Police spokesman said emergency services were called to the corner of Caloundra Rd and Pierce Ave, Corbould Park after initial reports the man was in a critical condition following the early morning crash. 

Paramedics treated the Little Mountain man on scene but he was unable to be saved, dying from his injuries at the scene.

It is understood the man crashed into a stationary truck, which had broken down at the intersection. 

A forensic crash unit is now investigating the circumstances around the crash.

Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage is or witnessed the crash is urged to contact police.
