Sunshine Coast tradie Brendan Kendell hailed as hero for saving tourists from car inferno

Tradie hailed a hero after he spotted a young family’s hire car on fire and helped them flee the inferno with their baby

A tradie is being hailed as a hero after he managed to alert a family when their car caught fire while driving before helping two adults and a baby escape.

Sunshine Coast man Brendan Kendell spotted flames coming from a hire car driven by a Polish family when he promptly did a U-turn and flagged them down at  Eumundi Noosa Road on Monday. 

The tourists had only hired the car 15 minutes prior to it catching alight. 

Mr Kendell managed to get the driver to pull over by repeatedly flashing his lights and beeping his horn.

He then leapt out of his car and rushed to the aid of the tourists.

Mr Kendell told 7News when they asked what was wrong he instructed them to get their baby out of the car immediately as it was about to explode.

‘I was like, mate, your car’s on fire,’ he said.  

‘The dude and his wife jumped out and then they got the baby out.

‘I told them the car is really going to go bang.’

After the incident Mr Kendall took to Facebook to write, ‘Wow that was f****** intense.’ 

People online commended the tradie’s quick thinking and selflessness.

‘You’re an absolute Legend Brendan,’ one said.

‘Good on ya Brendan Kendall you did save their lives! Well done mate,’ a second commented.

‘Thank you, you are a hero,’ wrote a third.
