A Texas teenager allegedly shot dead his parents and two siblings because he thought they were ‘cannibals’ and ‘planned to eat him’, according to an affidavit.
Cesar Olalde, 18, faces charges of capital murder for the deaths of both of his parents, his older sister and younger brother during an incident at their family home in Nash, Texas, on Tuesday.
According to an affidavit filed on Wednesday, Olalde is said to have killed his parents Reuben and Aida, as well as his older sister Lisbet and brother Oliver.
The documents state that Olalde shot all four and then dragged their bodies to a bathroom in the property before barricading himself in the house.
It is also claimed that Cesar made statements at the time of the incident that he had killed his family because they were cannibals and they were going to eat him.
Joseph Flieder is believed to have told cops Olalde had said he’d killed his family, after Flieder stopped by their home to check on his co-worker Lisbet, who had failed to show for work.
Flieder told police that other friends and family of the Olaldes had called their local church looking for information as to her whereabouts.
Flieder said that when he and his wife went to the residence they got no answer at the door and another Olalde family member arrived on the scene.
The two decided they would force entry to the property to check on the family and were confronted by Olalde as they entered, who was allegedly brandishing a firearm.
After getting his wife out the home, Flieder told police Cesar made statements that he killed his family because they were cannibals and had plans to eat him.
It is also claimed Olalde frequently pointed a firearm at Flieder throughout the exchange and brandished a knife at him also.
Flieder managed to escape before Olalde was taken into custody after cops arrived on the scene and surrounded the property.
Inside the residence, authorities said they found each of the victims shot multiple times and deceased inside a bathroom.
Investigators said that it looked like the victims were shot in other parts of the residence and dragged into the bathroom.
Responding police said there was ‘blood spatter on multiple surfaces’ and ‘multiple spent cartridge casing on the floor.’
Bowie County Sheriff’s Department said a negotiator had been sent to the house after a standoff with police and negotiated Cesar’s surrender.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help the Olalde family organize a funeral service for the family by Cesar’s older sister Diana.
She said: ‘On 5/23/2023 my world changed. My whole family my father who was a hard working man, my mother who was a caring and loving person, my sister who was full of life, happiness, and dreams, and my little brother who was an amazing, funny, and cheerful kid passed in a tragic turn events that even in my worst nightmare I couldn’t have dreamed.
‘If these people ever touched your life in anyway please help and donate. Prayers would be much appreciated as well.’
In a statement, Bowie County Sheriff’s Department said: ‘On May 23, 2023, at approximately 10:48 am Nash Texas Police Department responded to 563 Lemon Acres in reference to an unknown issue.
‘Witnesses on scene made officers aware of an individual armed and barricaded inside the residence.
‘Law enforcement also received information that multiple lives had already been taken inside the home.
‘A negotiator from the Bowie County Sheriff’s Department established contact with the barricaded individual and successfully negotiated the surrender of the suspect, 18-year-old Cesar Olalde.
‘Officers then entered the residence and located four deceased individuals. Olalde was booked into the Bi-State Jail in Texarkana, Texas for Capital Murder of Multiple Persons.’
Bail has been set at $10 million for Olalde.
