Thanksgiving spirit! NYC commuters are treated to full turkey spread on stalled subway train
- L-train travelers who were stuck in a stalled car were surprised with a Thanksgiving dinner Wednesday in Brooklyn
- Video was first shared by Jada Yuan, a reporter for the Washington Post
- Footage from inside the train was later shared by New York Bucket List, an Instagram account with more than 1.5 million followers
New York City subway riders stalled on the L-train in Brooklyn were treated to a Thanksgiving surprise when a full turkey dinner was served Wednesday in a train car.
Yuan said that she was on the train at Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn when it stalled and the conductor instructed the riders to exit.
After exiting, the reporter noticed several people eating mac and cheese and looking ‘happy’ and ‘laughing.’ That’s when she decided to investigate and stumbled upon a peculiar sight.
Another angle from inside the train showed passengers enjoying the food together while waiting
The Thanksgiving spread happened on the L-train near Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn
‘I was in a different car and when I stepped onto the platform there were all these happy, laughing people scarfing down [mac] and cheese! (They said it was bomb.),’ Yuan wrote.
The reporter said the doors remained closed as she recorded passengers scraping silver tins filled with sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, vegetables, and turkey.
‘This was as close as I could get,’ she wrote, captioning the video of her recording from the outside of the train.
Even after the doors closed, the group continued to serve, Yuan said.
She also confirmed that the food was distributed by Bea’s Kitchen in New York.
Yuan said she spoke with one woman who said she lives in a shelter and said ‘that’s really nice,’ and that ‘some [people] could use that food.’
Video from inside the train first went viral on TikTok after being posted by Haylee Pentek, who goes by ‘thatsnothaylee,’ on Wednesday.
‘The hottest restaurant in nyc is: THE L TRAIN,’ Pentek captioned the video, which uses Taylor Swift’s ‘Welcome to New York’ in the background.
That post has been watched more than 1.4 million times and received 330,000 likes.
The video was also picked up and shared by New York Bucket List Thursday morning.

‘Friendsgiving but on THE L TRAIN,’ the account captioned their post. ‘Only in NYC! Happy Thanksgiving from the greatest city in the world.’
New York Bucket List has more than 1.5 million followers and says it advises New Yorkers on ‘the best things to do’ in the city.
That reshare has since received more than 64,000 likes and 1,000 comments.
‘This moment made someone’s day. Some people are not in the highest spirit because they are alone, don’t have it to feast, or not in a good space. For someone to bring the ensemble and share is a big deal,’ wrote another.
‘This was a blessing I’m sure for someone who doesn’t have the blessing of food or family to share that with. This was a gift to someone I’m sure,’ said a commenter.
‘It wouldn’t be a day in NY without this type of love,’ said one person.
Several plates of food were put out on the ‘table,’ which also had gloves for people to grab
This wasn’t the first time that an incident like this was pulled off, however.
In 2019, Chef Bea owner Brandi Baxter worked with comedian Jodell Lewis and rapper Christopher Dupree to provide a Thanksgiving dinner to L-train riders.
Video later went viral, quickly racking up millions of views and hundreds of thousands of likes.
‘It was amazing to provide a classic New York City moment,’ Dupree told the New York Times in 2019.
