The Masked Singer: William Shatner reveals identity after performing as Knight on season premiere

William Shatner after performing in a Knight costume was one of two celebrities eliminated on Wednesday’s season eight premiere of The Masked Singer on Fox.

The 91-year-old legendary Star Trek captain performed wearing a Knight mask while riding on a golden goose. Before he was unmasked, Shatner said he couldn’t believe it took him eight seasons to get on the show.

‘I was holding out for the hosting gig but Nick (Cannon) keeps having babies so I guess he isn’t going anywhere,’ Shatner quipped.

His clues included the fact that he worked with George Lucas and released albums. The Knight performed Fred Astaire’s Puttin’ On The Ritz as dancers spun around him.

‘His voice is like a voice-over, familiar,’ said panelist Robin Thicke, 45.

Ken Jeong, 52, guessed it might be David Hasselhoff. Robin thought it was ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic but Jenny guessed correctly that it was Shatner.

‘We are not worthy,’ Nick, 41, said when he was unmasked.

Nick asked him what it was like to be on the show and the TV legend said it was horrible.

‘I can’t tell you how horrible it was,’ Shatner said. ‘I couldn’t see anything. I can’t walk. The noise was deafening. The mask was obliterating.’

‘Well, Mr. Shatner, thanks for doing our little old show,’ Nick said.

‘So I wrote to him and asked him if I could do it,’ Eric said. ‘I have a letter back saying ”Yes, you can do the song, but would you please tell what show it is so I can make sure to avoid it”.’

Eric then performed his iconic song Always Look On The Bright Side of Life from the film The Life of Brian.

Unlike other seasons, in the new Royal version only one competitor from each group moved forward in the competition and would be crowned the evening’s king or queen.
