The Voice: Camila Cabello debuts as coach and quickly blocks Gwen Stefani as blind auditions begin

Camila Cabello while making her debut on The Voice on Monday immediately blocked Gwen Stefani as the blind auditions kicked off on the NBC singing show.

The 25-year-old pop star said she studied all the tricks before making her first appearance on season 22 and quickly made her presence felt by blocking Gwen, 52.

‘It was you,’ said Gwen, wearing a pink sequin encrusted top with pink pants, as she realized it was Camila who blocked her.

Camila had spun around quickly for Morgan Myles, 35, from Nashville. She blocked Gwen before Morgan finished singing the song Hallelujah.

The Voice coaches Blake Shelton, 46, and John Legend, 43, also pressed their buttons for Morgan.

‘I want to hear records from you,’ said Camila, who wore white ruffled shirt under a black dress. ‘I’m fricken nervous because I want you so bad.’

Gwen said she was outside of the running, but then suggested Morgan choose her husband Blake.

In a confessional, Camila said she did her homework before the show and knew how the blocks worked.

‘Immediately my mind went to, ”Ah! Gwen is going to want her”,’ Camila said. ‘So I blocked her.’

‘Camila’s so smart she stepped right in,’ John, 43, said. ‘We all should be a little scared of Camila. I think she’s ready for competition here.’

‘You are the kind of artist that can win The Voice,’ John said.

‘Your performance was so powerful,’ Blake said.

‘You showed me your heart, it was very pure,’ Gwen said. ‘I think it would be really fun to work together because I come from that kind of background. Been in a band. We just got together, and I asked my dad for five bucks for a microphone.’

Ian picked Gwen and she ran up on the stage and gave him a Team Gwen sweatshirt.

Blake dissed the other team’s gifts. He said Gwen’s hoody looked like it had tape down the sleeves. He called John’s jacket a joke. He also said Camila’s camera gift was pointless.

‘I don’t know if she realizes that all of our phones come with a camera these days, so people are literally walking out of the building, throwing the camera in the trash, and looking like nerds wearing a fanny pack,’ Blake said.

Blake said he was going to hand out cool camouflaged patterned beer coolers if anyone ever picked him.

During the taping, Camila started singing Gwen’s hit song Hollaback girl. John joined in and Gwen picked up her phone to film them. The audience joined and so did Gwen.

‘I was so torn the whole time,’ Camila said. ‘When I was younger I auditioned for a singing-competition show. And in hindsight, I wouldn’t have turned around for myself. I had so much growing to do. It’s just a journey.’

Emma Brooke, 19, from Lyman , South Carolina performed California Dreamin’ by The Mamas & Papas. John turned around right away and Gwen also pressed her button.

Camila, Blake, Gwen and John all turned around. When Orlando said he was from Miami, Camila jumped up and celebrated.

‘I told you I got him,’ Camila said.

‘I’m a country artist, that’s all I’ve ever cared about being,’ Blake said. ‘If you want to be stubborn about it like I do then I’m the coach for you.’

‘You know the kind of artist you want to be and I would just help you on the journey,’ Camila said.

Orlando chose Camila.

‘What Blake was trying to tell you was that he is the G.O.A.T. of The Voice,’ John said.

‘Your team mascot doesn’t even want to be here,’ Camila said.
