CD Projekt is bringing its acclaimed role-player to next gen consoles and PC and there’ll be a free update if you already own it.

The Witcher 3 is starting to challenge Skyrim for the number of different formats it’s been released on, as CD Projekt announce a new version of the game for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Details are extremely limited at the moment, but CD Projekt is promising ray-tracing and faster loading times on both the base game and the two expansions.

Best of all, you won’t have to pay extra for the game if you already own it, so now might be the time to pick up The Witcher 3 Complete Edition on the cheap if you don’t.

The fact that there’s no video footage or screenshots suggests that the new version is a while off yet, but then CD Projekt are rather busy with Cyberpunk 2077 at the moment.

They recently insisted that the game will definitely meet its 19 November release date, although the status of its next gen versions has always been a bit unclear.

The current gen versions of the game will work on the new consoles (i.e. PlayStation 4 will work on PlayStation 5 and Xbox One on Xbox Series X) but there won’t be specific next gen versions until next year.

It‘s likely that the new version of The Witcher 3 will only be released after that, at which point CD Projekt may also feel like talking about its plans for a new sequel – which is rumoured to centre on Ciri.
