Top Republican demands Secret Service turn over all information on visitors to Biden’s Wilmington home – and calls for properties of President’s relatives including Hunter and his brother to be searched for documents
- Oversight chair Comer wants ‘any premises’ where Biden has been searched
- Says he doesn’t believe FBI and DOJ are taking probe ‘seriously’
- Citing a ‘lack of transparency’ he asked Secret Service for visitor logs
- FBI did own search in Wilmington to find more classified documents
- He referenced his House panel’s Hunter Biden probe
House Oversight and Accountability chairman Rep. James Comer wants the Justice Department to cast an even wider net by searching homes of Biden family members for classified material, after the discovery of additional classified material at Biden’s Wilmington home.
Comer, a Kentucky Republican who has already launched a probe into Hunter Biden, said ‘any premises’ where Biden has spent time ought to be searched – and made reference to the homes of his brothers and the Malibu home maintained by son Hunter Biden.
‘I still don’t believe the DOJ, FBI are taking this seriously,’ Comer said, after senior Democrats have begun criticizing Biden following the discovery of additional material marked classified following a Friday search of his home.
That followed the discover of material marked classified in his former Penn Biden office and another batch at the home. That followed a report in DailyMail.com that revealed Biden’s vice presidential document had a stopover in downtown DC in 2017 before making their way to the Penn Biden think tank office he used.
House Oversight Chair James Comer wrote the Secret Service seeking any visitor logs of Biden’s Wilmington home. He also says he wants any premises where Biden lived searched
He also is asking the Secret Service to hand over any visitor logs that might exist for the Wilmington house, citing a ‘lack of transparency.’
In a letter dated Monday, he noted that the White House claims it does not maintain such logs, but that the Secret Service ‘does generate law enforcement and criminal justice records’ for people who may come into contact with protected sites.
Comer was critical of the nature of the current searches being done with Biden’s permission through his attorneys.
‘We learned that initially they just took the president’s personal attorney’s word that there were no further documents. At the very least, this should put to bed whether president Biden’s attorneys actually know the extent of his responsibility, or they are not being truthful with the DOJ,’ he said of the initial search, now that DOJ has been on site.
Comer said he wouldn’t rule out searching Biden family member homes, and made reference to alleged ‘influence peddling.’ Here Biden is seen with his brother, James

‘They need to take this very seriously. I think any premises where the president has spent any amount of time needs to be searched. I wouldn’t rule out searching anywhere where certain relatives of the Biden family – we know has been involved in influence peddling schemes,’ he alleged. ‘I wouldn’t rule out looking at their locations,’ he said, pointing to a ‘pattern.’
‘Something bad is going on here. This is of the utmost important for document security,’ said Comer.
He got asked whether Hunter Biden papers and devices should be fair game, since he spent time living in Biden’s Wilmington home early in the pandemic. He said the White House would ‘stonewall every investigation by the House Republicans, much less this investigation.’
‘We are hopeful the secret service will work with us. This is not going to go away for Joe Biden,’ he said.
His comments follow reports that DOJ is considering doing its own search of Biden’s Rehoboth, Del. beach house, where he visited this past weekend, and where the White House counsel says no classified documents were found in a search by Biden lawyers.
Over the weekend, Comer said his investigation into the Biden family was moving into its ‘next phase.’
‘We’ll be looking at bank statements. We’ll be looking at bank violations,’ Comer told the Washington Examiner.
The White House has stressed that Biden’s team has cooperated voluntarily with law enforcement to allowed access to documents Biden’s lawyers have discovered, have have tried to contrast it with Donald Trump’s months long resistance to requests from the National Archives, in a clash that led to an FBI search under a subpoena.
Sen. Majority Whip Richard Durbin on Sunday rapped Biden for the matter. ‘Let’s be honest about it. When that information is found, it diminishes the stature of any person who is in possession of it because it’s not supposed to happen,’ he said.
Under criminal probes, authorities must have probable cause to search a premises, and must provide a judge with a good reason to search properties of any related associates.
‘The president takes this very seriously,’ White House counsel spokesman Ian Sams told MSNBC Monday. He said Biden was fully cooperating ‘to understand how this happened.’ But he repeatedly declined to say how the documents got where they ended up, referring questions to DOJ.
