Changing her ways: Vicky Pattison, 34, says she no longer reaches for a drink to calm her nerves – and she has credited her fiancé Ercan Ramadan with helping her
She told the Mirror: ‘If we had met 10 years younger, we just wouldn’t have worked at all. I probably would’ve thought he was boring. But he’s exactly what I need. He provides me with a sense of calm.’
Vicky claims she drinks because she is ‘neurotic’, adding that she’s ‘nervous all the time’.
She said: ‘When I have a drink, that relaxes me. And that was all I’d ever found that calmed me down – until Ercan. He makes it feel like it’s OK to be totally myself.’

She was worried during production that – despite pursuing a healthy lifestyle – she would find out she was always going to end up like her father.
She previously told the Mirror: ‘My biggest fear was that I’d find out something about me or my dad that I didn’t like. Or I find out that, “Well, maybe you are actually just going to be an alcoholic because your dad is, and you can go on all the fitness retreats you want and you can do all the Dry Januarys you like but you’re going to hurt your kids”.’
Vicky – who shot to fame on MTV reality show Geordie Shore which is about hard-drinking Newcastle natives – also explained that she never thought she would take up drinking when she was a little girl but, as a ‘people pleaser’, often struggles to say no in various social situations.

She added: ‘If you’d asked me at eight, nine years old if I was ever going to have a drink, I would have said no. I would have said, “There’s no way I’m ending up like my dad”. And I hate that that was even something that was in my mind that young. But am a people pleaser and I want to be what everyone wants me to be.
‘If I am in a big social situation, like a big wedding or a massive event or a party, and someone’s like, “Oh, let’s do shots! Let’s do this!”, it’s very hard for me to say, “Oh, no, I’m someone different now.”
‘Because there is still a part of me that is that person.’
Vicky Pattison: My Dad, Alcohol and Me will air on Tuesday 2 August on Channel 4 at 10pm.
