A man has fired a gun at police after barricading himself in a shed on his rural property in Queensland.

Police have surrounded the Kingsley Street property, at Walloon, since 2.50am on Sunday.

Negotiations throughout the early morning reached breaking point after several shots were fired from the shed at 8.45am.

Police have declared an emergency situation at the property and the surrounding streets.

Haigslea Amberley Road, Bell Street, Kingsley Street, Kinmouth Street, Station Lane, Short Street and Stocks Lane are all flagged as no-go zones.

Motorists and pedestrians have been urged to avoid the area as police continue to negotiate with the man.
