Watchdog groups demand Biden’s Senate records searched for classified docs

Biden’s 2,000 boxes and 400 gigabytes of digital records from 36 years in the Senate should be SEARCHED for classified documents, three watchdog groups demand

  • Watchdogs calling for Biden Senate records to be searched
  • Concern there is classified information in them
  • Biden Senate records are at University of Pennslyvania

Several watchdog groups are calling for Joe Biden‘s records from his Senate years to be searched for classified documents after another tranche of material was found at his Wilmington, Delaware, home.

There are also calls to search his Rehoboth, Delaware, beach home. Biden’s personal attorneys searched the home but said no classified material is there.

The University of Delaware houses 1,875 boxes and over 400 gigabytes of digital records from Biden’s 36-year Senate career. He desposited his records there at the end of his service.

The National Legal and Policy Center and other groups are calling on Special Counsel Robert Hur to go through that material as part of its investigation and to search the Bidens’ Rehoboth home.

‘The FBI needs to search the entire 14,000 square foot Penn Biden Center where classified documents were found by his private attorneys searching only Biden’s private office,’ said NLPC Counsel, Paul Kamenar.

‘The FBI also needs to search Biden’s Senate records stored at the University of Delaware as well as his beach home,’ he said.

Other groups are also calling for similar searches. While in the Senate, Biden served  on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and had access to classified material. Classified documents related to that time period were found in his Wilmington home.

‘With the number of discoveries of new locations containing classified documents seeming to rise every day, it’s possible that classified material could be found in nearly every place Joe Biden slept, worked, or stored his personal belongings,’  Michael Chamberlain, director of Protect the Public’s Trust, told the Washington Examiner

‘The fact that the FBI search of Biden’s home last week uncovered more documents than originally known make it critical that the Biden Center at the University of Delaware be searched,’ Pete McGinnis, spokesman for the Functional Government Initiative, said.

The White House said they are cooperating with the Justice Department on the investigation.

‘We are fully cooperating with DOJ, working with them throughout their investigative steps here and coordinating with them on any needs going forward. So, in terms of the searches, potential searches, things like that, I’m not going to get ahead of any decisions that are made. But, you know, we’re fully cooperating with DOJ,’ White House spokesman Ian Sams said on Monday.

Additionally on Tuesday it was revealed that a dozen classified documents were found at former Vice President Mike Pence’s Indiania home, raising questions about the process of packing up high-ranking government officials after they leave office.

Classified material has now been discovered in the possession of Pence, Biden and former President Donald Trump.

Republican Rep. Michael Waltz told Fox News that the transition process ‘is broken.’

‘But I think the difference with Biden here is just how long this goes back,’ he added.

And Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told Fox that ‘when it’s all said and done maybe we are overclassifying things, that may be part of the problem. But count me in for getting this fixed.’

Both Biden and Trump and being investigated by a special counsel.

In total, there have been five discoveries of classified materials in Biden’s possession: at the Penn-Biden Center, a think tank in Washington, D.C.; in Biden’s garage at his Wilmington, Del., home; one document discovered in his ‘personal library’ in the same home; four more documents found in his home; and then another six found when the Justice Department did another search of his Wilmington residence.

As for Trump, the National Archives had repeatedy requested material from the former president who took boxes of paperwork with him when he left the White House.

All presidents turn over the documents to the federal government at the end of their tenure. Trump eventually handed over 15 boxes. The archives found classified material in them and, suspecting Trump hadn’t handed everything over, turned to the Justice Department, which ultimately got a federal warrant to search the property.

Ultimately Trump was found to have hundreds of documents with classified documents in his possession.

Biden turned over his documents when his lawyers found them and voluntarily gave the FBI access to his Wilmington, Delaware, home, to search for more. Those agents found six more classified documents on Friday after a 13-hour search of the home.
