As Britain experiences its hottest day on record with temperatures soaring past 40C (104F), many people will be tucking into an ice cream to help them cool down.

But the biggest problem with iced treats is that they melt, often too quickly, leaving you in a sticky mess.

To discover whether all lollies are equally drippy, MailOnline tested three popular ice creams – including Vegan Classic Magnum, White Chocolate Magnum and a Solero.

The treats were placed in the scorching 39C (102F) heat in London today to see which one will give people more a chance of getting to the bottom without reaching for the handwipes.

It was bad news for those following a plant-based diet, since the Vegan Classic Magnum melted in just seven minutes, while the White Chocolate version collapsed in 15 minutes.

The Solero lasted the longest, fully falling from its position after 17 minutes 30 seconds – however the fruit lolly heavily dripped throughout the experiment.

The fruity treat’s soft gel outside seemed like it would potentially melt the quickest – and it did start to drip before its counterparts.

However, despite the orange covering soon immediately falling from the lolly, it proved steadfast compared to the Vegan Magnum.

The plant-based ice cream mostly melted away after a giant section of it collapsed during the first seven minutes of the experiment.

Meanwhile, the white chocolate version appeared unwavering despite the intense heat – only leaning slightly from its position.

But soon, it was also toppled, leaving the victorious Solero to slowly melt away in the London weather.
