‘What is happening’ starts trending in the UK as nation shares collective shock over Eurovision success following years of ‘nul points’

Eurovision viewers frantically took to social media to share their collective shock over the United Kingdom’s success following years of ‘nul points’.

The UK stormed to the top of the jury leaderboard at Saturday’s final Eurovision Song Contest after Sam Ryder represented the nation.

After the public vote left fans on the edge of their seats, the UK incredibly came in second place, with Ukraine topping the leaderboard.

Sam, 32, left viewers impressed with his incredible rendition of Space Man and saw him earn a staggering 283 votes from the jury.

Despite the UK’s poor Eurovision history in recent years, Sam proved he could break the trend and performed well in the competition, bucking the ‘nil point’ trend.

Responding to their success, Sam Ryder gushed: ‘Thank you so much… there’s so much gratitude sitting around in this green room… what an experience.’

And viewers were equally as shocked, as ‘what is happening’ began trending on Twitter as the nation couldn’t believe the UK received so many voters.

One person penned: ‘I love the fact that WHAT IS HAPPENING is trending because the whole of the UK is collectively losing their minds about us not being complete pariahs in #Eurovision.’

Another wrote: ‘FRANCE GAVE THE UK 12 POINTS? WHAT IS HAPPENING?! IS EVERYONE OK? #Eurovision’

A third added: ‘What is happening????? did we somehow end up in the multiverse?? why is everyone giving the uk points??’

It comes after Sam was placed as second-favourite to win the song contest after bookies stacked him at 8/1 for the win.

It was a huge improvement since the 69/1 odds when the bookies first opened up their bets.
