The fifth Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character is set to be announced later this week – which is pretty exciting news for fans of the game.

Players have been becoming increasingly frustrated over the lack of an announcement regarding the final character to be included as part of its Fighters Pass – to the point they’ve even been looking for hints on director Masahiro Sakurai’s own Twitter feed.

But it seems their efforts are about to be rewarded – so just when is the character being unveiled?

Here’s the info you need…

When is the new Super Smash Bros character announced?

The new character is due to be announced this Thursday at 2pm UK time.

How can you watch it in the UK?

Those who want to see the big announcement can see it on a livestream on Nintendo UK’s YouTube channel.

The news follows speculation that the rumoured fifth character would be announced at The Game Awards – which was the venue for the announcement of the first one – but obviously that’s turned out not to be the case.

All kinds of rumours have been flying around about just who the fifth character might be.

Some players have suggested that Sakurai’s pose in the picture is a hint of sorts – while others have noticed the date coincides with a date mentioned by the official Devil May Cry Twitter account, and that it could point to a potential crossover with Dante.

Crash Bandicoot, Master Chief and Sora are among other rumoured names – although leakers recently ruled out Sora as well as Master Chief from Halo, with the latter speculation based on a very obviously fake audio intro supposed to reveal the character’s identity.

Another serial leaker, Vergeben from GameFAQs, recently ruled out any character from Bandai Namco or Level-5 – which means no Tekken, Professor Layton or Soulcalibur.

It’s also been suggested that the fact the character is receiving a presentation of this sort on the time of announcement could mean development on them is close to completion – and that we might not have to wait that much longer for them to be released.

Whatever happens, we’ll know soon enough…

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available on Nintendo Switch.
