Wolfgang Van Halen defends Billie Eilish after she was shamed for not knowing legendary rock band

Wolfgang Van Halen defended Billie Eilish on Monday after she was shamed for being unable to name a member of the legendary rock group Van Halen.

The 28-year-old Van Halen bassist took to Twitter to support the 17-year-old singer.

‘If you haven’t heard of @billieeilish, go check her out. She’s cool. If you haven’t heard of @VanHalen, go check them out. They’re cool too,’ Wolf posted for his roughly 183,000 followers.

He added: ‘Music is supposed to bring us together, not divide us. Listen to what you want and don’t shame others for not knowing what you like.’

Billie last month appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and discussed coping with fame at age 17.

Jimmy, 52, noted that he was age 17 during perhaps the ‘greatest year in American history’ of 1984 and gave her a retro quiz highlighting their age difference.

He asked her to ‘name a Van Halen’ and Billie answered, ‘Who?’.

She also admitted during the same interview that she didn’t know Huey Lewis and when asked to fill in the blank, ‘Run-D-M’ replied, ‘What? What is that?’ before Jimmy explained the reference to the famous 1980s hip hop group Run-DMC.

She also wondered if a Cabbage Patch Kid was a candy.

Jimmy also asked Billie, ‘What did Mr T pity?’.

The teen was later shamed online for not knowing about Van Halen. 

Wolfgang is the son of Van Halen lead guitarist Eddie Van Halen, 64, and Valerie Bertinelli, 59.

He became the Van Halen bassist in 2006 replacing original member Michael Anthony, 65.

Van Halen was formed in the 1970s by Eddie, his drummer brother Alex, 66, singer David Lee Roth, 65, and Michael.

The group’s self-titled debut album was released in February 1978 and sold more than 10 million copies.

Van Halen’s sixth studio album 1984 also shipped more than 10 million copies.

The band was inducted in 2007 into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Billie released her debut studio album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? in March.

Her single Bad Guy after its release in March reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Billie has been nominated for six Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.

The Los Angeles native is the youngest artist ever to have been nominated for the Big Four Grammy Awards.

She also was honored Monday as Artist Of The Year in the inaugural Apple Music Awards as her debut album was the most played in 2019 on Apple Music. She also won the Apple Music Award for Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year with her brother Finneas O’Connell.
