Yankees’ Betances, Montgomery pass another rehab test

DETROIT — Dellin Betances pitched a scoreless inning and struck out two in his second rehab appearance with Double-A Trenton as he tries to come back from a shoulder impingement that was followed by a lat strain.

Jordan Montgomery, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, started and gave up two runs (one earned) in three innings as Trenton beat Bowie 6-2 in a playoff-series opener in Trenton. Luis Severino is expected to start for Trenton in his final rehab outing Wednesday. If all goes well, Severino should slide back into the rotation.

Stephen Tarpley (left elbow impingement) pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Betances and Montgomery discussed their outings during a press conference after the game:

Right-hander Ben Heller was activated, while right-hander Adonis Rosa, who appeared in one game with the Yankees last month, was designated for assignment. Heller did not pitch in the Yankees’ 12-11 loss to the Tigers on Tuesday night.
