An Australian man has been photographed driving down a highway with his rubbish bin hanging off the back of his car – after forgetting to leave it outside his home.

The hilarious photo showed the driver heading down a road in Yarra Valley, north-east of Melbourne on Friday, without knowing he’d also been taking the trash out with him.

Instead of leaving it on his street for the garbage trucks to collect, the man kept driving with other motorists amused by the odd addition to his car.

The man believed to be behind the wheel admitted to the slip up after the photo was shared to a community Facebook page.

‘Made it all the way to Woollies… then I realised,’ he said.

‘I’m glad I fitted new wheels to our bin!!! She flies now.’

Another said they laughed when they saw him pull up to the supermarket, while many admitted they too had driven off with their own rubbish in tow.

‘I did that all the way to the library and l thought ”gee people are friendly today waving at me”,’ one said.

‘At least I’m not the only one,’ wrote another.

‘It’s amazing how far some people go with them and they manage to stay on,’ one added.

‘My nephew did this. Wondered why the cops pulled him over.’
