‘I will miss everyone but I want to go out proper. I came in proper and I want to go out proper.

‘It’s a thing that needs to be discussed more openly and I think it’s going to shock a few people.’

He confirmed to the publication that Mick’s ending means the character will not make a Walford comeback.

MailOnline has contacted the BBC for further comment.

Danny said he’s done more than 1,000 episodes of the BBC soap over 10 years and insisted it was time to move on.

He said he wanted to leave the soap in the right way rather than simply hopping in the back of a black cab before being driven off through the streets of Albert Square, as many characters have done in the past.

Danny’s exit storyline is set to be the focus of the soap across Christmas and New Year.

However, while Danny admits he is emotional about leaving EastEnders, he says he’s excited about being able to get out and audition for new roles again.
