The Vision Pro saw daylight last year at the WWDC event, but it took its sweet time to hit the shelves as the company was creating the necessary hype and preparing developers to create proper use cases for the headset. While the reviews shared positive feedback, the possibilities for the device are endless as developers work to expand the Vision Pro’s applications in the real world. We are now hearing that an orthopedic surgeon in Brazil used the Apple Vision Pro to successfully perform surgery on a patient’s shoulder.

The Vision Pro is one of the leading headsets for an augmented reality experience and the next-generation models will take it to the next level. Performed by Doctor Bruno Gobbato, the patient underwent surgery for a Rotator Cuff tear which is caused by excessive wear and tear of the tendon tissue in the shoulder. Gobbato shared his experience with the Vision Pro and how it aided in the surgery with its diverse range of cameras and sensors working together to show relevant information related to the operation. MacMagazine writes:
“Shoulder arthroscopy surgery uses a camera inside the joint and surgeons perform it by looking directly at a screen. With this device, I was able to see the image on the size of a movie screen with high resolution, as well as being able to see the patient’s exams and 3D models in real time.”
It can be seen in the video shared by the doctor on YouTube how the Vision Pro helped him see notes, x-rays, live cameras, and much more amid the operation. The doctor also previously used Microsoft’s HoloLens to conduct surgery in the past, which means that he is familiar with the struggles of wearing a headset in the operating room. All in all, the surgery was a success and the Vision Pro replaced a plethora of equipment in the room.
While doctors are calling the headset a ‘game-changer’, there are endless use cases for the Vision Pro other than media consumption and your everyday tasks. However, the Vision Pro does not come cheap as it starts at a hefty price tag of $3,499 for the base model against the competition. However, the product is worth it depending on what you are planning to use it for. The company will potentially launch the Vision Pro in additional countries ahead of the WWDC event in June.
