A furious cafe owner has hit back at an Instagram influencer who left a negative review after being rejected for a collaboration.

The social media star, who boasts 8,500 followers, approached Monica Tjong – the owner of Goji Granola Bar & Cafe on the Gold Coast – and asked for free food in return for a promotion.

Ms Tjong swiftly rejected the proposal saying the cafe did not give out free food and they did not know who the so-called influencer was.

‘She told the girl at the till ”I’m a blogger” and showed her phone,’ Ms Tjong told the Gold Coast Bulletin

‘She said ”this is my Instagram page if you want to tell the owner to work with me. I’ve already asked and told no but maybe because I’m here you can give me something for free”.’

This is not the first time Ms Tjong has denied collaborating with influencers who are looking for a free meal.

Just last year, a blogger complained the trendy cafe’s prices were too expensive and asked for free toppings.

‘We had to say, ”no sorry, you can’t have anything for free”,’ Ms Tjong said.

Mr Tjong is now taking a stand following her latest run-in with an Instagram influencer.

On Wednesday, she went online to find a scathing 560 word review with just two stars.

‘To start off, the bowls are very poor in content and quantity … and they are expensive,’ the post read.

‘I was very disappointed, regret massively that breakfast and spending money on a product that clearly has minimal quality.’

Ms Tjong has now put in a request to have the review removed as the business bounces back in the wake of COVID-19.

She is now displaying a sign at the cafe which reads: ‘No influencers no free food!’
