A homeowner has given her outdated kitchen a modern makeover for just $500 using budget buys – including a $99 Ikea benchtop and $25 Kmart stick-on tiles.
To renovate her kitchen without spending a fortune, she used $59 rattan sideboards from Kmart as cabinets for storing pantry items and cookware.

‘Our kitchen was so blah when we purchased the house… and now I’m loving it,’ the woman wrote in a Facebook group.
‘Ikea bench tops, painted the cupboards, handles from eBay, added VJ panelling to front which was a leftover from our bedroom, Kmart rattan sideboards for cabinets and of course the “love them or hate them” tiles. $500 well spent.’
Skye added: ‘It’s not my forever kitchen and I can’t leave my house at the moment due to lockdown so I’m happy to enjoy it while I can.’
After sharing the results of her transformation on social media, thousands were amazed by the renovation, with some saying the space looked ‘unrecognisable.’

‘Those Kmart sideboards looks so fabulous as overheads! Clever lady you are,’ one wrote, while another said: ‘Wow that’s beautiful.I am in love with your kitchen and the creativity.’
And one woman added: ‘Oh wow that is amazing, fantastic job also very clever. So much cheaper than a new kitchen.’
Many said they couldn’t believe she spent just $500 on the entire renovation.
‘$500! You’re a magician. It’s stunning, well done,’ one wrote, while another said: ‘What an amazing transformation for $500 and some elbow grease! Job well done.’
One wrote: ‘That looks bloody amazing, you got a champagne finish on a beer budget… super impressed.
While another added: ‘How amazing is this before and after renovation. Just goes to show you don’t need a big budget to have a beautiful kitchen.’
